Welcome to Good in the Hood!

Good in the Hood is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of, and building relationships with, the members of our neighborhood. Some past projects have included: holiday gifts for over 75 refugees, a dance night for some local widows, and monthly activities for some South Salt Lake youth.

We have been helping a young man, Chart Meredith, who was in a car accident last November. Chart fractured his C6 vertebrae and is now paraplegic. We obtained a $5,000 grant from Home Depot to go towards the $30,000 expense of re-modeling Chart’s home to be wheelchair accessible. The day before Chart’s accident, his Grandma (who raised him with his Grandpa) had a lung removed due to cancer. Yet through it all, Chart and his family have kept an inspiringly positive attitude.

Chart is working hard in therapy. His doctors are amazed at his will power and work ethic. Chart’s insurance, however, stops paying for his therapy at the end of March. Chart’s chief goal is to walk again and he needs therapy to do so. Good in the Hood would like to get our community involved to help with paying for either his therapy or an at-home exercise room.

Good in the Hood will hold a fundraiser on Saturday May 22nd at the Holladay City Hall. Local music groups will be entertaining. We will have games and activities for kids, and a documentary about Chart. Attendees will give a donation for admission, and also have a chance to make extra donations in a silent auction. All donations will go toward Chart’s medical and rehabilitative necessities. Chart cannot achieve his crucial goals without donations from businesses like yours. Such donations may include: items for the auction, supplies for the activities, food, or games, as well as funds to go directly toward Chart’s medical and rehabilitative expenses.

We appreciate any donation you can make to help our neighbor, Chart, and his family!
